HOW TO CO-WASH YOUR HAIR WEAVE

WHAT IS CO-WASHING

Refers to the method of cleansing your hair weave with conditioner or a co-washing cleanser. Co-washing is a new trendy to clean your hair without the use of shampoo. For your co-wash to really work, you have to make sure you are using a moisturizing conditioner and not a protein conditioner.

BENEFIT OF CO-WASHING

Not only will a co-wash keep your hair weave healthy and soft, but it will also give much-needed moisture to your weave. It’s a simple way to refresh your weave when it starts looking dull and lifeless.

HOW TO CO-WASH

Step1

Find a rinse-out conditioner that works well for your hair. Not every conditioner works well for all weave types. So get what makes your curls, kinks and locs feel good and go for it!

Step 2

Start off by wetting the hair with warm water. Apply a moisturizing conditioner from weft to tip. Don’t be afraid to be generous! You will be using the conditioner like shampoo, so expect to use more than usual.

Step 3

Comb through the hair with a wide-tooth comb and let the conditioned hair sit for a good 5 to 10 minutes before rinsing. Leaving it on for a prolonged period adjust the time to suit your individual weave needs.

Step 4

After your weave is rehydrated, be sure to rinse out all the conditioner from the hair. If your weave habit normally includes a leave-in conditioner, you may want to do a light rinse so that you can retain some of the co-wash conditioners.

Step 5

Finally, gently pat the hair weave with a towel to remove excess water from the hair, and let it air dry. Never rub the hair together because it will create unmanageable tangles and frizz.
