Taking off your glued-in lace wig may not be too tricky, but removing the sticky mess left on the weft can be quite a challenge. So here are some tips and techniques for removing and cleaning all traces of glue from the tracks after each use.
- Step 1
Grab a plastic bowl and pour 100 percent pure acetone inside. For best results, check the label and make sure it's 100% pure acetone. Some nail polish removers have additives that can make the glue harder to remove.
- Step 2
Placing the bonded area in the liquid. Do not place the whole wig in the acetone as it will cause damage. The acetone can cause tangling and dryness if it comes in contact with the hair.
- Step 3
Give the acetone some minutes or so to break the glue's bond. You'll see the glue beginning to harden. Once it does, you can move on to removing it from the weft.
- Step 4
Repeat steps until all adhesive is removed.Dissolved adhesive will appear in the bottom of the bowl. Flake the remaining glue, if any, off of the wig.
- Step 5
Acetone is very drying. To keep your wefts in good shape for reuse, deep condition your extensions or apply an oil to replace any moisture lost in the process. You can also choose to deep condition the extensions right before you use the acetone, which will help protect the hair.
